Parchment Family Practice

Osteoporosis

Our belief at Parchment Family Practice, P.C. is that there is a hidden epidemic of osteoporosis throughout our country, caused by lifestyle, medication usage and dietary habits.

In 1994, Parchment Family Practice, P.C. was one of the first physician offices in Michigan to incorporate state of the art bone density scanning in an office setting.

Bone density scanning

National guidelines suggest that all women over the age of 50 be screened every two years for osteoporosis via dexa scanning. Men over age 50 with risk factors, as well as women under age 50 with risk factors such as fractures or loss of height (to name a few conditions) are candidates for screening. Most insurance plans cover bone density scanning.

The patient is very comfortable during the examination and is exposed to a negligible amount of radiation. The bone density scan also performs a fracture risk assessment. Upon completion of the scan, a face-to-face visit with a provider will give you the results of your scan and therapeutic recommendations.
